Job Description:

The Key Account Manager – Military & Government is responsible for growing United’s revenue from the U.S. Government. This includes maximizing the fiscal year revenue realization and year-over-year revenue growth of General Services Administration (GSA) City Pairs for assigned territories and/or accounts, plus developing and executing strategies to grow United’s share in non-contracted city pairs. As Key Account Manager – Military & Government, you will:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage with the Military & Government travel management teams within TMCs that handle government contracts
  • Serve as primary contact for the GSA and other departments/agencies of the US federal government for sales focused questions/concerns, which may include traveling to offices throughout the United States and international locations to meet with United’s federal government customers
  • Engage and brief leadership within Sales and other functions as necessary to ensure appropriate levels of engagement and support for United’s annual bid package to GSA for City Pairs
  • Ongoing and proactive review and analysis of sales and passenger share data through coordination with the Government Contracts organization, Revenue Management and other teams as necessary
  • Actively drive, contribute to and support the creation, revision and submission of United’s bid package for GSA City Pairs along with the Government Contracts organization, Revenue Management, Pricing, Legal and other necessary functions
  • Consult with the Government Contracts organization on contractual elements of United’s bid strategy to ensure compliance with solicitation requirements
  • Analyze awarded City Pairs route estimates and realized sales to identify opportunities for improvement through targeted actions/initiatives with Travel Management Companies (TMCs) including specific revenue/passenger share goals for TMCs
  • Identify and maximize United’s revenue opportunities in markets that are not covered by the GSA City Pair contract
  • Closely coordinate and consult with the Government Contracts organization to ensure sales and administrative actions, both internal and external to United, align and comply with contractual obligations and rights in the GSA City Pairs Program
  • In tandem with the Government Contracts organization, actively work with the GSA, US federal government departments/agencies and associated TMCs to maximize the conversion of awarded City Pairs routes and revenue/passenger estimates to realized revenue for United
  • Involved in the identification of root cause(s) for non-realized revenue/passenger share of City Pairs routes and formulation, evaluation, selection and implementation of corrective action plans in close coordination with the Government Contracts organization, operations and other relevant departments/functions
  • Actively engage with Revenue Management in the review and analysis of prior year(s) awarded City Pairs fares to identify opportunities for fare revisions which maximize revenues and maintain United’s share of City Pairs routes

  • Ability to compile and analyze voluminous data sets
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
  • Demonstrated general business acumen and financial aptitude

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 2 years of experience in sales to the US Government
  • Salesforce/CRM system experience
  • Experience or knowledge in Finance, Network Planning, Revenue Management, Marketing, Loyalty or Alliances
  • Military background (ideally involving logistics, transportation management, contract management)
  • Ability to quickly learn and leverage digital and social selling tools
  • Knowledge and user experience of the company’s systems and data sources used within Sales
  • 2 years of experience working for or with Travel Management Companies (TMCs) or similar entities
  • 5 years of sales/airline management experience
  • MBA or advanced degree
